The Justinian Society of Lawyers held its 23rd annual Children’s Endowment Fund grant reception on March 13. Justinian President Brian Monico and Justinian Society Endowment Fund Chairman Frank Sommario presented a total of $15,000 in grants.
The March 13 event was held at Luxbar Chicago. Homewood Science Center Executive Director Edie Dobrez, Keshet board member Doug Winkelstein and Chicago District Golf Association Executive Director Robert Markionni were on hand to accept the grants, provide short descriptions of their organizations and explain how the grant money will be used.
“The Justinian Society is dedicated to promoting charitable giving as part of its mission, and we are pleased to support this year’s recipients,” Monico said.
During the presentations, several Justinian members made personal donations to the CEF from the floor, which will be tabulated and directed to the grant recipients in addition to the main donations. This round of generosity has become an event tradition.
The mission of the CEF is to assist disabled or disadvantaged children in the Chicago area. Since its establishment in 2002 during the presidency of Antonio Romanucci, the fund has assisted a wide range of recipients, including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House of Chicagoland, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Reflections Foundation, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Child’s Voice, Maryville Academy Children’s Healthcare Center, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, CASA Kane County, Fox Valley Special Recreation Foundation, Direct Effect Charities, Saint Anthony Hospital, La Casa Norte, and Almost Home Kids.
