A ogni studente viene assegnata una regione diversa e conducono ricerche sulla storia, la cultura e le tradizioni della loro regione. The Italian American Executives of Transportation honored a dynamic father-son duo at their Nov. 16 gala at Ashton Place in Willowbrook. (708-212-1051) Michael Tadin Jr., president of MAT Construction Inc., was honored as Man of the Year at the event, and Michael A. The Italian Catholic Federation Branch 392 presented the 2019 Mother Cabrini Award to Nicola and Maria Tenerelli on Nov. 10 at Porretta’s Banquets in Chicago. The award is given each year to a deserving couple that has demonstrated the Italian values of faith, family and community in their everyday lives. Lyric Opera hires new music director

Eminent Italian conductor Enrique Mazzola has been named as Lyric Opera’s music director designate and will become Lyric’s music director beginning with the 2021-’22 season. Discussion group tackles Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’

Lovers of Italian language and culture are invited to join a lively group of Dante enthusiasts for an ongoing discussion of “La divina commedia” every Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Center in Stone Park. At each session, moderator Vincenzo DeVito introduces a canto with a short summary after which participants take turns reading from Dante’s “Purgatorio.” Readings are followed by a group discussion in Italian about the passage’s meaning, etymology, history and related critical commentary. Glorioso appointed to key state position

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s administration has appointed Westchester attorney Mauro Glorioso as executive director and general counsel of the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board. Glorioso has served the PTAB in a number of capacities, most recently as chairman. Prior to that he was a member of the statewide five-member board, and before that he served as an administrative law judge at the agency. “I am honored by the administration’s confidence in me,” Glorioso says. The executive director is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the agency, which assures that real property assessments are fair and uniform.

Pizza team from U.S. strikes gold in Italy

The United States Pizza Team headed out for the 28th edition of the World Pizza Championships in Parma with high hopes — and returned with accolades galore. USPT member Scott Volpe of Fiamme Pizzeria in Tucson, Ariz. wowed the crowd with his seamless blend of hip-hop break-dancing and flawless dough spinning, earning first place in Freestyle Acrobatics. His performance was set to custom-edited music by fellow team member Lenny Rago of Panino’s Pizza in Chicago, Park Ridge and Evanston.
