SADIA to host second annual Carnevale

The Sons and Daughters of Italy in America will host its second annual Carnevale di Venezia from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 4 at Empress Banquets in Addison. Dubbed “La Commedia dell’Arte,” this year’s celebration will feature antipasto and dessert buffets; a family-style spaghettata; live entertainment, including acrobats and costumed performers; dancing; and more. SADIA presents scholarships

The Sons and Daughters of Italy in America presented Aidan Orlando and Giuliana Vasilevich with Nancy Cometa-Darrell Marchioretto scholarships at a ceremony on June 3 at Casa Italia. These scholarships were made possible by donations from the Casa Italia board of directors and Journey to Wellness & Balance. SADIA is gearing up for Schaumburg’s SeptemberFest over the Labor Day weekend. Revenue from their beer and wine tent, located near the Ferris wheel at the festival, funds the donations that the organization will make throughout the year.

SADIA slates night at the ballpark

The Sons and Daughters of Italy in America will turn out in force at Wintrust Field in Schaumburg on July 21 when the Schaumburg Boomers take on the Trois-Rivieres Aigles of Quebec. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for members and $24 for non-members, with the cost covering seating along the first base line on the home side of the field and a hot dog, chips and beverage. Activities for the kids before and during the game and fireworks are included in the festivities. (president.sadia@gmail.com)

SADIA hosts standout Carnevale

A capacity crowd converged on Empress Banquets in Addison for the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America’s first annual Carnevale di Venezia. Acrobats, dancers and musicians performed for guests, who turned out in force to honor beloved Casa Italia staffers Nancy Cometa and Darrell Marchioretto. Dinner featured an extravagant cicchetti (appetizers) buffet, a spaghettata of three pastas and Nutella crepes in celebration of World Nutella Day.

SADIA dishes out pizza-making session at Elio’s

Members of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America converged on Elio’s Pizza on Fire in Addison for a deep dive into the art of pizza making. Owner and master pizzaiuolo Elio Bartolotta took participants through the process of pizza making, from preparing and rolling the dough, to topping the pizza, to baking it for the perfect time at the perfect temperature. Flour was flying everywhere, but the outcome was worth the chaos. Attendees supped on the pizzas they made along with an antipasto buffet, followed by a Nutella pizza for dessert.

Scolaro elected president of SADIA

Cav Uff. Lyn Scolaro has been elected president of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America. Scolaro takes the helm from Pat Pierce, who briefly succeeded founder and longtime president Joe Papa. “I want to thank Pat for doing such a great job of leading SADIA,” says Papa, who stepped down as president when he moved to Florida in January. “The organization has made a great choice in electing Lyn.
