Preparing to sell this spring

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Spring is here and market trends and buying trends are changing along with the weather. If you’re planning on selling your property this season, there are several items to add to your to-do list that can make all the difference in how much you sell your house for and how long it will be on the market.

You want to appeal to the masses. Neutral colors are in and gaudier options are out. If painting is an option, go with cool neutral tones as opposed to brighter colors that might appeal to you personally. Odds are whoever is considering the purchase will have their own decoration ideas so don’t put too much time, thought or money into it.

Minimalist chic is the new theme. With keywords like “open floor plan” “light and airy” “abundant sunlight” point the way toward optimal appeal, get rid of any clutter before the photos are taken. Less is more.

Depersonalization is key. Buyers can’t envision their photos on the walls when yours are still there. Let the walls and counters speak for themselves.

(My pet peeve is magnets on appliances.)

If you have a yard, stick to your spring routine. Spruce it up and make sure it looks ship shape for potential buyers. Most importantly, ask your real estate professional for advice. They can help you identify what needs to be done so you can get started.
