Sorelle owner sets up second shop closer to home

Sorelle Italian Market & Cafe, a new Italian cafe and market, opened in November within The Glen Town Center in Glenview. The location at 1941 Tower Drive is the second for the business, which also operates a cafe and market in Long Grove. Owner Mario Weber, a Glenview native, told the publication Journal & Topics that he always wanted to open a business in his hometown. “My parents used to bring me to the (Naval Air Station Glenview) air shows, and now we’re right on the corner by the tower,” said Weber. “It’s kind of a homecoming.”

“Sorelle was created by Mario as a reflection of his family, heritage, and upbringing. The restaurant is deeply rooted in the traditions passed down through his mother, Josette Mentesana Weber, and especially his grandparents, Benedetta and Giuseppe Mentesana, who remain a daily inspiration behind everything we do,” says Hana’s wife, Weber. “Their photos are displayed in all of our restaurants, and many of the recipes, traditions, values, and sense of hospitality that shaped Sorelle come directly from them and the way they welcomed people into their home.”

The name Sorelle was inspired by their three daughters, Hana says, noting that Mario’s culinary background and training in Florence played a major role in shaping the concept. “From the ingredients we source to the techniques and atmosphere, the goal has always been to create something that genuinely reflects traditional Italian culture in an authentic and respectful way,” she says.
