Consulate stages stellar Festa della Repubblica event

Consul General Mario Bartoli pulled out all the stops for the first Festa della Repubblica celebration of his tenure at the Italian Consulate in Chicago. Around 450 leaders from both sides of the Atlantic packed the Morse Genius Chicago Room of the Chicago History Museum and poured out onto the plaza behind the museum during the June 9 festivities. Food stations and information booths were arrayed indoors and out, with a Lamborghini gracing the plaza. Durpetti earns Chicago street dedication

As part of Gene & Georgetti’s 85th anniversary celebrations, a portion of Franklin Street near the legendary Chicago steakhouse was officially dedicated as Way. Durpetti, who took over the restaurant in 1989 after the passing of his father-in-law, died last year. “It was a moment decades in the making and one that reflects the indelible impact Tony had on our family, our team and the city we proudly call home,” the restaurant stated about the dedication. Gene & Georgetti earns high marks from Eater Chicago

Iconic Italian steakhouse Gene & Georgetti, now owned and operated by the third generation, was named among Chicago’s best family-owned restaurants by Eater Chicago. Gene Michelotti and Alfredo Federighi (nicknamed “Georgetti”) founded the restaurant at 500 N. Franklin Street in 1941. It was then purchased by Michelotti’s son-in-law, Anthony “Tony” Durpetti, who ran it with his wife, Marion. The restaurant unveiled an expansion in 1997, with two second-floor dining rooms and fire doors that separated the newly constructed building from the original erected in 1872.
