New take on ancient tunes Alla Boara will unleash its innovative approach to Italian folk music at a 7:30 p.m. concert on Feb. 28 at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights. Led by drummer Anthony Taddeo and featuring vocalist Amanda Powell, the Cleveland-based group employs jazz arrangements to revitalize traditional Italian folk songs — some of them centuries old. UNICO National honors standout pair at conclave in Chicago

  UNICO National held its midyear board of directors meeting in Chicago from March 7-9. The centerpiece of the weekend was an awards banquet at the Embassy Suites hotel in Rosemont on March 8, where two Italian Americans were honored for their outstanding contributions to their community and their respective fields. The Guglielmo Marconi Science Award was presented to Dr. Carl D. Marci, a Boston-based physician, scientist, entrepreneur and author.
