Angelo “Skip” Saviano has served as village president of Elmwood Park since 2013. He recently retired as minority leader of the Illinois House of Representatives, having served in the state legislature since 1992. During his tenure as a state representative, he was a member of several influential committees, and was the first member of a minority party to hold a committee chairmanship in the modern history of Illinois politics. Known for his advocacy on behalf of the young, the elderly, individuals with special needs and public safety, Saviano has been honored by Children’s Place, Suburban Area Agency on Aging, Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association, People with Disabilities, Leyden Family Services, Triton College Student Association, Leyden Psychological Rehabilitation, Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans. Locally, Saviano has obtained many state grants to help fund infrastructure projects in Elmwood Park, including street-scaping of the North Avenue corridor as well as the construction and upgrading of the pool, recreation center and library. He served as Leyden Township supervisor prior to his election to the Illinois House, and owned and operated a paralegal service before being elected to public office. A co-founder of the Taste of Elmwood Park, he has served as the chairman of the West Suburban Special Recreation Association’s annual Derby Gala for 12 consecutive years and as chairman of Leyden Family Services’ annual fundraising event in 2012.
