The restaurant L’Angolo Italiano opened this summer at 1538 W. Jarvis Ave. as an extension of the Italian language and cultural center Sentieri Italiani, Block Club Chicago reported.
L’Angolo is run by cousins Daniela Cavallero — who founded Sentieri Italiani in 1997 — and Paola Nervi. It offers a no-frills menu of small bites like zucchini fritters, stuffed tomatoes and sartú di riso as well as mocktails and other beverages. The restaurant posts on its social media page when there are surprise plates for the day, like biancomangiare, a lemon-infused Sicilian dessert.
“Our dream has always been to create a place where people don’t simply eat Italian food — they experience Italy,” Cavallero and Nervi said in a news release. “Whether someone joins us for dinner, an Italian class or a cultural event, we hope they leave feeling like they’ve spent time in Italy.”
The restaurant shares a space with Sentieri Italiani, which offers language classes, cooking workshops, travel programs, film showings and more. Upcoming events from Sentieri and L’Angolo include Serata Cena Toscana (a dinner inspired by Tuscany) on Dec. 5, the hands-on cooking classes Conservare e Preservare II on Dec. 6, Paste Ripiene on Dec. 13, and a holiday party on Dec. 19.
L’Angolo Italiano is open 5-9 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. Sundays are reserved for Sentieri Italiani programs. For more, click here.
