The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans and Roselle Sister Cities Italian Committee will host the Italian American Liberty Gala on June 5 at Belvedere Banquets in Elk Grove Village. The event will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Festa della Repubblica and the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States of America.
The signing of a Sister City relationship between Mola di Bari, Puglia, and Roselle, Illinois, will be a highlight of the event, which will spotlight Pugliese cuisine and culture.
Belvedere Banquets will be adorned with the traditional Pugliese illuminations known as luminarie. On the menu will be burrata, mozzarella, focaccia and award-winning Pugliese wines.
A fashion show will feature special occasion and evening wear from the region, and musical entertainment will be provided by “The Voice Italy” finalists Gaia Gentile and Nicolò Pantaleo.
Italian dignitaries in attendance will include Puglia President Antonio Decaro, Mayor of Mola di Bari Giuseppe Colonna and Movimento Associativo Italiani all’Estero Vice President Enzo Odoguardi. Local leaders Ron Onesti and Vito D’Ambrosio will receive the MAIE’s Croce di Ambasciatore delle Eccellenze Italiane.
“You absolutely won’t want to miss this beautiful gala,” says event coordinator Pat Capriati. “It’s a unique opportunity to witness the historic Sister Cities signing between Roselle and Mola di Bari, be enchanted by incredible direct-from-Italy entertainment and experience the vibrant culture and cuisine of Puglia, all the while supporting vital scholarship and cultural exchange programs.”
Tickets are $85.
