Easy steps to preparing your home

Paint

The snows are about to melt and the spring real estate market is about bloom. Preparing your home to hit the market can be easier than you think. There are many things that can be done at little or no cost that will make your home stand out.

Do you still have wallpaper in your home? Buyers can sometimes see wallpaper as an added hassle and expense. If you can, spend an afternoon removing the old wallpaper and painting your walls a neutral color. Use a heat gun or blow dryer to heat up the wallpaper; this will make it easier to peel off. While you have the paint out, why not freshen up to your windows, doors, and trim? After that, consider scrapping off that popcorn ceiling and giving it a nice coat of white paint.

Your kitchen is usually the room that will sell your home. These days, stainless steel appliances are cheaper than ever and will give your kitchen a whole new look. Also a backsplash can be installed in a day and will open and brighten your room.

Clean your carpets and floors as well. For a low cost you can rent a carpet cleaner yourself from a local hardware store. This will also help remove any smoke or cooking smells that are stuck inside of your carpet. While you are at it, why not give a new coat of sealant to your kitchen tile and restore that original shine!

Clear out your garage and give the floor a good power washing. This will help to remove some of the stains on the concrete from your cars. Also are the cabinets falling off the wall in the garage? Pull them down and give the wall a quick refreshing with paint. I know you say it’s just a garage, but it makes a difference to buyers!

Adding some new outlets plugs and covers where yours are old and broken will help as well. While you are at it why not add some USB port outlets in your kitchen and bedrooms. With more tech savvy people out there this will definitely be a plus!

Make sure your bathrooms are fresh and clean. Replace old soaps with new ones take out the old towels and replace them. Also toss out all the old magazines you have laying around and clean up and clutter you may have lying around.

At the end of the day you want to make sure your home stands out over the rest! If your village does a pre sale inspection make sure to get them out in a timely manner and repair any issues immediately they may bring to your attention.
