Ben Tedesco Inc. enters second generation

Many business owners dream of their children following in their footsteps. That dream became a reality for veteran property loss adjuster Ben Tedesco when his daughter Renee Tedesco-Ohr earned her public adjuster’s license in 2020. Tedesco-Ohr had been working at Ben Tedesco Inc. in a variety of capacities since 2014.

“Renee is the best associate I’ve even had,” says Tedesco, who launched his firm in 1982. “It’s a comfort to know that the company will be in capable hands for decades to come.”

Born in Elmwood Park and raised in Shiller Park, Tedesco-Ohr graduated from Mother Guerin High School then embarked on a successful career at a corporate travel company, eventually managing one of its large call centers. After her daughter graduated high school and she began reevaluating her career goals, joining her father’s firm felt like the natural next step.

“Ben has built his reputation on a high level of standards and ethics so I knew I would be learning from the best,” she says. “I quickly learned how insurance claims actually work and why hiring a public adjuster can make such a difference for property owners, especially when it comes to making sure their claims are fairly settled.”

In a nutshell, property loss adjusters use a variety of state-of-the-art metrics to help owners maximize their insurance proceeds when their properties are hit by fire, wind, flood or other types of damage.

Tedesco-Ohr says that the favorite part of her job is the bond she and her father forms with their clients. “Most people we are representing are in vulnerable positions and knowing that we have their best interest at heart is very fulfilling,” she shares. “Maximizing their claims and ensuring they become whole and are able to rebuild their losses requires a ton of compassion and being able to do that while knowing we have earned their trust is worth everything.”

Tedesco-Ohr proudly points out that the majority of her father’s business is based on referrals. “This means that his office has done an excellent job in representing businesses and homeowners,” she says. “I’m excited to be able to continue expanding our network reach.”

Working with her father has been a joy and an inspiration, according to Tedesco-Ohr. “Anyone who knows Ben, knows he is a unique character:  Witty, interesting and smart,” she says. “Working for my dad has pushed me to maintain a strong work ethic because nobody I know has more passion than him in this field.”
