WineSergi01As the child of Italian-American parents of Calabrese descent, Dan Sergi grew up in Villa Park watching his folks not only preach the gospel of hard work, but live it as well. He remembers working electrical jobs from an early age with his dad, who rarely took vacations or time off while supporting his family of six.

“The most important thing they taught us was to live your life with integrity,” says Sergi, president and CEO of Wine Sergi Insurance in Naperville. “You witnessed it every day in what they did.” You also can see it in Sergi’s quest to provide ethical and outstanding insurance and financial services tailored to each client’s unique needs.

“We don’t just provide a quote, we’re dedicated to providing the definitive client experience,” Dan assures. “We are serious about our clients, investigating their assets and designing an insurance program to protect their net wealth.”

At the heart of it all, two solid pillars account for Wine Sergi’s accomplishments. “First and foremost, educate your clients with professional advice and counsel,” Dan explains. “And second, hold to your tradition and values.”

The present-day Wine Sergi has roots dating to its founding in 1924. Sergi, who graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in business administration, bought the company in 1997, back when it had only eight employees. Still, there was much to build on. “We have many clients who have been with us for 30, 40, 50 years and multiple generations,” he says.

From that solid foundation, Sergi expanded to its present size, with 40 full-time employees. Wine Sergi is licensed to write insurance in all 50 states, and Sergi has recently expanded into a boutique asset management firm as a co-founder of Criterion Wealth Advisors. Criterion’s professional services span a wide range of financial planning needs, from 401(k)s and IRAs to life insurance, structuring buy-sell agreements and more.

As for his dedication to excellence, Sergi says his parents sacrificed much to make sure he got an education, and he has diligently expanded his professional knowledge over the years. He is a Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter, and a member of the National Society of Property & Casualty Underwriters and the National Risk Management Society.

Along the way, Wine Sergi has earned a Business Excellence Award, and has been named “The Best Place to Work in Illinois” and “The Best Insurance Agency in the Midwest.”

In terms of his approach to detail, Sergi speaks of “architecting” a policy the same way a custom homebuilder will create a residence to someone’s exact needs rather than throwing them into a cookie-cutter house.

“The way insurance works, whether it’s personal or business, it all starts with a basic policy,” he says. “But then we carefully architect the policy to provide the proper protection by adding important and required coverage and limits of liability.

“Most people only look at the premium and make their choices based on cost alone, not understanding that they are paying good dollars to chase poor insurance protection.” Sergi adds. “Our clients at Wine Sergi understand this and are protected.”

So when clients emerge from their work with Sergi, “We’re not giving you a piece of paper,” he says. “We are giving you the peace of mind that your business, your home, your auto, your net worth, are protected from loss.”
