Arcolians to honor Dr. Hagenbruch

The Arcolian Dental Arts Society honored Joseph F. Hagenbruch, D.M.D., as Arcolian of the Year at its Christmas party on Dec. 12 at Elmcrest Banquets in Elmwood Park.

The following profile was provided by the organization.

Joseph F. Hagenbruch, D.M.D., a graduate of Washington University School of Dental Medicine in Saint Louis, Missouri, is a private practice general dentist in Harvard, Illinois.  Dr. Hagenbruch is a former American Dental Association Eighth District Trustee.  He is a former president of the Illinois State Dental Society (I.S.D.S.). He is a former president of the Illinois Academy of General Dentistry (I.A.G.D.) and of the McHenry County Dental Society (M.C.D.S.).  He serves as an I.S.D.S. spokesperson and as a Prevent Abuse and Neglect through Dental Awareness (P.A.N.D.A.) spokesperson/presenter for Northern Illinois.

Dr. Hagenbruch has served as both a delegate and an alternate delegate to the American Dental Association (A.D.A.), the I.S.D.S., and the Academy of General Dentistry (A.G.D.) Annual Session House of Delegates on many occasions.  Dr. Hagenbruch served on the A.D.A. Council on Dental Benefit Programs (C.D.B.P.) and served as its Chairperson in his fourth and final year on the Council.

Dr. Hagenbruch presently serves on the Illinois State Board of Dentistry and as an Examiner for the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA-WREB-CITA), where he participates in conducting clinical dental examinations for graduating dental students from several dental colleges around the country.  He also presently serves as a member of the CODA Subcommittee on Dental Prosthodontics which, under the authority of CODA and the United States Department of Education, accredits all of the dental school programs, dental hygiene programs, dental assisting schools and dental laboratory programs throughout the United States.

Dr. Hagenbruch is a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, where he is a past-chairperson for the Illinois Section and served as the national Treasurer for the American College of Dentists.  He is a Fellow in the International College of Dentists, the Odontographic Society of Chicago, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International.  He also has served a six year term as a member of the national A.G.D. Council on Legislative and Governmental Affairs.  He is a three-time Past-President of the Harvard Lions Club and is a member of the Harvard American Legion Post # 265, where he serves as the Finance Officer.  Dr. Hagenbruch has served as a volunteer director for the Family Health Partnership Clinic (FHPC) for twelve years.

He volunteers his services at the Family Health Partnership Clinic (FHPC) which recently added a dental facility providing basic dental care for those individuals in McHenry County and the surrounding area who are uninsured or who are among the underserved populations.  He formerly served as a volunteer dentist for the McHenry County Cooperative Dental Clinic (MCCDC) which was a facility he helped organize and create in late 1996.

Joe was awarded the Distinguished Member of the Illinois State Dental Society four years ago for his volunteerism within the profession and care for the underserved and marginalized persons in his area.

In Springfield, Illinois, on October 10, 2007, Dr. Hagenbruch was presented with a Healthy Smiles Hero Award from then Illinois Lieutenant Governor Patrick Quinn for his commitment and selfless efforts to increase access to dental care for the state of Illinois and the greater McHenry County area.

Dr. Hagenbruch and his family reside in Harvard, Illinois.
