In Chicago’s crowded steakhouse scene, Deliz Italian Steakhouse brings a lot of assets, including its location, Chicago Magazine reported. Deliz opened in December, in the spot formerly occupied by the restaurant Etta, at 1840 W. North Ave. “We wanted to bring something to Bucktown so people don’t have to go to River North or Gold Coast or the West Loop,” chef Jake Peterson told the magazine. “We wanted to give people something closer to home that could be that date-night spot or let them just come into the bar and get a pasta.” Peterson worked at Etta, famous for its …

Incarceration can’t deter these creative cooks

The recently published English translation of an Italian book gives fascinating insight into how Italian prisoners cook in their cells with the few resources that are available to them. “Cooking in Maximum Security” was published by Half Letter Press in November. Italian, Creole cuisines converge at Provaré

The new restaurant Provaré at 1523 W. Chicago Ave. in Chicago pushes boundaries with its convergence of Creole and Italian cuisines. The menu is “perfectly aligned with the saucy and spicy fare,” according to the Michelin Guide. Provaré is the brainchild of chef and partner Jourdan Higgs, a native of suburban Oak Park. “On the menu, the chef pays homage to his Sicilian grandfather, and the results are just full of surprises. Our experience involved ‘crabby fries,’ shatteringly crisp calamari tucked with jalapenos and banana peppers, and tossed with cognac-splashed shrimp scampi,” Michelin writes. Higgs told Forbes magazine that he …
