The Italian Cultural Institute in Chicago inaugurated its new offices at 150 N. Michigan Ave. with a grand opening on Sept. 22. The institute had occupied its previous location at 500 N. Michigan Ave. since its founding more than 40 years ago.

“This relocation sets us in even closer proximity to the heart of Chicago’s cultural center and enhances our visibility and opportunities to interact and collaborate with the people and organizations of Chicago,” says Chiara Avanzato, director of the institute.
A highlight of the evening was the first U.S. performance of the Italian singer/songwriter duo Colapesce Dimartino, best known for their award-winning hits “Musica leggerissima” and “Splash.” Made up of Lorenzo Urciullo (stage name Colapesce) and Antonio Di Martino (stage name Dimartino), the Sicilian acoustic/pop pair had established solo careers before joining forces in 2020 for “I Mortali.” The collaborative project spent weeks at No. 1 on the EarOne radio airplay chart, racking up five platinum certifications and more than 150 million streams.

Attendees were also the first to view “A Palm of Victory,” featuring works by Italian artist Emilia Faro. The multimedia exhibition brings to life an imaginative palm grove, evoking the tree’s ability to bend in the wind without breaking, serving as a metaphor for resilience and rebirth.
The exhibition will remain on display at the institute through Dec. 11 and can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment. (iicchicago.esteri.it/en)
