Verdian masterpiece The Lyric Opera of Chicago will present Giuseppe Verdi’s tragic masterpiece “Rigoletto” from Sept. 14 to Oct. 6. A tale of jealousy, vengeance and sacrifice, it centers on the licentious Duke of Mantua; his hunchbacked court jester, Rigoletto; and Rigoletto’s daughter, Gilda. Among the opera’s musical highlights are Rigoletto’s hair-raising denunciation of the Duke of Mantua’s courtiers, “Cortigiani”; the philandering Duke’s false-hearted condemnation of women, “La donna è mobile”; and Gilda’s ecstatic expression of emotional independence, “Caro nome.” Conducted by Music Director Enrique Mazzola, an acclaimed Verdian, the production features a cast of international stars, including Russian baritone …
