The first Italian American pilgrimage to the National Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in Chicago was such a resounding success, the shrine is gearing up to replicate the experience on Sept. 21
Buses will once again pick up and drop off attendees at Casa Italia in Stone Park and the Old Neighborhood Italian American Club in Chicago, with Villa Cesare in Schererville, Indiana, and the American Italian Cultural Society in Crest Hill added to the itinerary.
Pickup times will vary, depending on distance from the shrine. Tours of the shrine will precede a noon Mass, followed by a reception.
As visitors walk through the shrine’s museum and into its lovely domed chapel before the Mass, they will be accompanied by knowledgeable docents who will share engaging stories about the shrine’s many splendors and Mother Cabrini’s enormous impact on the Windy City and the world.
Monsignor Kenneth Velo will hold the faithful spellbound during the Mass with a homily that illuminates the shrine’s patroness. Afterward, guests will sip prosecco while partaking of a sumptuous, two-tiered antipasto table, courtesy of Onesti Entertainment.
The shrine’s staff and volunteers will ensure that the event runs smoothly from start to finish. The luxury buses and other costs associated with the occasion were underwritten by an anonymous donor.
