The cacio e pepe at Chicago’s Rose Mary restaurant earned the distinction of being the most popular pasta dish in Illinois, according to Yelp Elite members, Business Insider reported.
Owned by chef Joe Flamm and located at 932 W. Fulton Market, Rose Mary features a blend of Italian and Croatian cuisine reflective of Flamm’s Italian heritage and his wife’s Croatian heritage.
The restaurant is named after Flamm’s grandmothers, Mary and Mary Rose, and the herb rosemary, which grows natively along the Italian and Croatian coastlines.
“Rose Mary is the culmination of everything I have done with my career. But more importantly, it’s the culmination of my personal journey thus far — a marriage of who I am, what I’ve learned, and the person I’ve built a life and a family with,” Flamm says on the restaurant’s website.
Rose Mary is among the nominees for the 2025 Jean Banchet Restaurant of the Year Award, whose recipient will be selected later this month. Flamm won Bravo’s “Top Chef” Season 15 and was the executive chef at the Michelin-starred Spiaggia in Chicago.
His newest venture, il Carciofo, which will serve Roman-style pizzas and hand-rolled pastas at 1045 W. Fulton Street in Chicago, was expected to open in December. “It’s meant to be like the piazzas in Rome where you hang out and watch the city happen,” Flamm told Eater Chicago.
