This year, Anichini Brothers celebrates 100 years of their family-operated business. The company has grown from a small grocery store with prime cuts of meat and high-quality sausages to a wholesale food-distribution company based at 545 N. Wells St. in Chicago.
Silvio Anichini started the business with his brothers after emigrating from Lucca, in Tuscany. Anichini’s son-in-law, Salvatore Gaddini, recognized the importance of the pizza market and expanded the business to include sausage made in-house.
The company offers six types of Italian sausage: Premium Italian Rope Sausage with Fennel; Premium Italian Rope Sausage with Garlic; Premium “Spicy” Italian Rope Sausage; Premium Italian Bulk Pizza Sausage with Fennel; Premium Italian Bulk Pizza Sausage with Garlic; and Premium “Spicy” Bulk Pizza Sausage.
Other offerings include pork, beef, poultry, pastas, cheese, tomatoes, flour, oil, spices and a variety of pizza toppings. In 2008, Anichini Brothers achieved USDA certification, enabling it to tackle the global market.
“As a family, we look back at the faith and pioneering spirit of those who have gone before us — leaving their home for the unknown and looking forward to their journey ahead, taking what they had learned to their old home, keeping many traditions, and forging new ones in America,” said Lisa Lendy, Anichini’s granddaughter. “We are very humbled and grateful for those who have gone before us.”
