The “Da Vinci Machines Exhibition: The Titans Experience” will be on display on Level 3 of Water Tower Place through the end of the year.
The exhibit displays hand-crafted models built based on da Vinci’s 500-year-old designs, bringing to life the creations of this renowned scientist, inventor and artist. Many of da Vinci’s digitally re-mastered paintings will also be on display.
Inventions on display include a bicycle, spring-powered car, hang glider and the “air screw,” a precursor to the helicopter. And for the first time ever, the secrets behind da Vinci’s legendary robotic lion are revealed.
The models are grouped in themes: war machines, flying machines, and nautical and hydraulic machines, as well as devices illustrating the principles of mechanics. Explanatory notes and illustrative panels with Leonardo’s drawings accompany each interactive model. Docent guided tours and “The Da Vinci Genius” documentary plays continuously during the exhibition.
Suggested admission donations range from $15.95 for adults to $11.95 for children 5 to 12. The Exhibition and Gift Shop will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
