The Italian-American community will salute Peter Silvestri at a retirement party on July 22 at Casa Italia.
“Peter Silvestri has faithfully served the citizens of Elmwood Park and surrounding communities for nearly half a century,” says Casa Chairman Ron Onesti. “We invited the entire community to celebrate the life and career of one of our community’s standout political leaders while we raise crucial funds for the Casa.”
Silvestri began his career in public service as a student leader at Elmwood Park High School and a teen coordinator with the village’s Recreation Department. In the intervening decades, he served as president of the District 401 Board of Education (1980-83), associate director of the Illinois Department of Labor (1987-94), president of the Leyden Norwood Municipal League (1990-94), director of the West Central Municipal Conference (1997-2013), president of the village of Elmwood Park (1989-2013) and commissioner of the Cook County Board (1994-present).
The party will start at 7 p.m. in the Festival Center at Casa Italia. Tickets are $55 per person and $500 for a table of 10. Rocco Biscaglio, Ron Onesti, Rich Pellegrini, Enza Raineri and Angelo “Skip” Saviano will chair the event.
