Chicago’s Milly’s Pizza in the Pan was one of only two U.S. pizzerias that made the cut for the 18 best pizzas globally, according to Time Out. Milly’s landed at No. 12 on Time Out’s list — a slight drop from its No. 11 spot in 2025.
The eatery “is known for pan-style pies with crispy edges and thick, airy crusts. … Editors singled out Milly’s thick-crust Untitled #1 as a standout example of Chicago’s signature pizza style, saying it represents the pinnacle of the city’s most iconic dish, topped with cheese, tomato sauce, pepperoni and jalapeños,” Time Out reported.
The No. 1 spot went to the cacio e pepe pizza from Mama’s Too in New York City, the only other U.S. pizzeria to make the list. Rome’s 180Grammi Pizzeria Romana took second place with its margherita pizza with artichokes, ham, olives and egg, followed by Short Road Pizza in London in third place with a chimichurri-topped marinara pizza.
Owner Robert Maleski opened Milly’s in 2020 as a tribute to his grandmother Milly, who taught him to cook, and restauranteur Burt Katz, “whose Chicago pan-style pies inspired Robert to jump from eating a lot of pizza to making his own,” the eatery’s website states. Milly’s has locations at 925 N. Ashland Ave. in the West Town neighborhood and at 3409 N. Broadway in the Lakeview neighborhood. For more, click here.
