Longtime community activist Carlo Vaniglia has been elected president of Comitato per gli Italiani all’Estero (The Committee for Italians Living Abroad). Joining Vaniglia on Com.It.Es are Vice President Pietro Lorenzini; Secretary Cristina Gorizio; Treasurer Ivana Di Piero; executives Michelangelo Gianpaoli and Francesco DiMaggio; and members Stefano Butera, Giovanni Geusa, Roberto Vinci, Carol D’Anca, Franco Franchi and Lucio Bosco.

The above were elected by Italian citizens living in the jurisdiction of Italy’s Chicago consulate, which encompasses 11 states. The committee is responsible for communicating the needs of its constituents to the Italian consulate and for promoting Italian language, culture and history in the jurisdiction. “We’re planning on being very active and involved,” Vaniglia assures.

Vaniglia lives in the southwest suburbs and has owned and operated Modena Auto Body in Chicago Ridge since 1985. He was born in Alcamo, Sicily, in 1956 and arrived in Chicago with his family in 1960.

Vaniglia, who grew up in the Taylor Street neighborhood and remains active there, spearheaded the Festa della Repubblica celebration at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii for more than a decade. He is the president of Società Santa Fara di Cinisi, the Chicago representative of Comitato Tricolore Italiani nel Mondo and a member of the Little Italy Chicago Neighborhood Association.

Com.It.Es has an office at 7524 W. Addison St. in Chicago. For details, call 708-217-1004.
