John Curry to step up as Columbian Club president

John Curry will ascend to the presidency of the Columbian Club of Chicago at a black-tie installation dinner on Jan. 29 at Medinah Country Club. For reservations, call Victor Guerrieri at 773-391-0882.

Curry joined the Columbian Club in 2009. “I became interested after listening to my dearly departed friend Tony Morizzo talk about club events over dinner,” Curry recalls. “I was particularly interested in how members considered the Columbians to be an Italian-American businessman’s club, not just an Italian-American club, with a mission to promote our heritage and assist the community.

“Being a member of the Columbian is like having 100 brothers, all of whom have had very similar experiences growing up Italian,” he continues. “We are from different parts of the world, and yet we have had the same relatives who loved to cook, eat and gather together. I grew up in a small town southeast of New Orleans, and I had the same childhood experiences as members from the South Side of Chicago, the East Coast and Italy.”

Curry plans on devoting his term as president to continuing the club’s good works, recruiting younger members and having the club become more involved in the community.

Curry is CEO of Kappel and Apple Resource Insurance and Financial Group, an Arlington Heights-based firm that helps businesses with group health insurance and financial and employee benefits. He lives in Schaumburg; has a son, stepdaughter and four granddaughters; and serves as chairman of the board of the Italian American Executives of Transportation.
