Defense Department hails ESGR stalwart Renato Bacci

Colonel Renato Bacci, U.S. Army (Retired), was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service in a ceremony at the Pentagon Office Complex in Washington D.C. on Nov. 15. He was recognized for his service as state chair of the Illinois Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve from October 2013 to September 2019. The award was presented by ESGR Chairman Ronald E. Bogle (on left in photo).

The award citation states that his exceptional leadership, dedication and commitment to the mission of the Illinois Committee significantly enhanced and sustained employer support for the men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces Guard and Reserve.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program established in 1972 to inform and educated both employers and service members. More than 3,700 volunteers across the country work to ensure that all employers support and value the employment of members of the National Guard and Reserve.

Bacci’s was credited with significant improvements to the Employer Outreach, Military Outreach, Ombudsman Services and the Employment Initiative programs for the ESGR. During his two terms as state chair, he also served as the chair of the Information Technology Subcommittee at ESGR Headquarters and served on the ESGR board of directors.

Noting that Bacci routinely went above and beyond the call of duty, the citation concluded that his distinctive accomplishments reflected great credit upon himself and the Department of Defense.
