The Italian American Labor Council will honor International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers lynchpin Robert W. Pierson at its 2013 Man of the Year Gala on Oct. 5 at Alta Villa Banquets in Addison.
Robert W. Pierson has served as Business Manager of IBEW Local 9 since July 1997 and as Chairman of the International Executive Council of the IBEW since Nov. 1, 2005.
Bob was initiated into Local 9 on Dec. 1, 1966. As a direct result of his dedication and loyalty to Local 9, to the Brotherhood and for the betterment of the IBEW, Bob was appointed a business representative for his local in 1980. One year later, he was promoted to assistant Business Manager.
Local 9, under Bob’s leadership, represents IBEW members employed in the outside construction and line clearance work jurisdictions in the greater Chicago area, employees of the city of Chicago, the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Transit Authority and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. In addition, many members work for the city of Naperville and several other small municipalities sprinkled across Northern Illinois.
Bob’s efforts and the tireless labor expended by him to improve the lives of the IBEW members of Local 9 have not gone unnoticed by labor leaders across Northern Illinois. He holds the respect of his fellow union brothers within the greater Chicago area, serving on the Executive Board of the Chicago Federation of Labor and the Executive Board of the State Conference of the IBEW, as well as holding the titles of chairman of the Outside Task Force and co-chairman of the Inside/Outside Jurisdictional Committee.
On Nov. 1, 2005, IBEW President Ed Hill appointed Bob the Chairman of the International Executive Council. He has since been re-elected to the Chairman position twice, once in 2006 and again in 2011. His service as Chairman of the International Executive Council of the IBEW is a lasting testament to his devotion, tireless work, and commitment to the best interests of not only the members of Local 9 but of the entire Brotherhood across the United States and Canada.
Bob has called the south suburbs home his entire life. He currently resides in Orland Park with his wife of 47 years, Shirley. They have four children and nine grandchildren.
To acknowledge our appreciation of Robert Pierson’s many accomplishments and dedication to working families, we cordially invite you to join us in honoring Robert on Oct. 5.
