“For 45 years, the Chicago West Suburban Chapter of UNICO has been the consummate host of one of Chicagoland’s most popular charitable golf events. This year’s highly successful event was held at a new venue in Bloomingdale, Ill.
Over the years, under the leadership of Jack Cerone, Joe Rovetto, Ed Gesualdo and current co-chairs Mario Veltri and Joe Mollica, Chicago West Suburban UNICO’s outing has been noted for its gastronomic delights from sausage-and-egg breakfast before the shotgun start to a buffet feast consisting of roasted lamb, chicken oreganato, Italian sausage with peppers, sweet corn and a variety of fresh fruits (with optional wine).
Guided by the versatile hands of UNICO National President Mike Veselka, the buffet ran from 9 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon, allowing guests the opportunity to return for seconds …. or thirds throughout their day of golf.
The day’s activities saw 110 golfers enjoy camaraderie, good weather and a challenging course, and concluded with more food, a raffle and prizes for the day’s best golfers.
Proceeds realized by the event are to be donated to The Jimmy V Cancer Research Fund, UNICO Foundation College Scholarship Fund; local Italian American Charities, and an undergraduate scholarship award.
The chapter looks forward to doing it again on the third Monday in August 2014. We invite your participation in what we promise to be yet another day of fun, competition and, above all, good food.
