5,000 Miles From Home

This award-winning documentary sheds light on the untold story of Chicago's Italians and World War II. Through in-depth interviews, vintage film footage and rare archival photos, we follow two-dozen veterans from the rough-and-tumble streets of the Windy City to the battlefields of Europe and Asia and back home again.

Filled with humor and heartache, honor and heroism, this is a universal tale that applies equally to Italian Americans across the country and every other ethnic group that has come of age in the shadow of war. "5000 Miles From Home" earned six national Telly Awards, two Midwest Emmys, and Viewer Choice honors from the local PBS station, which has aired the documentary annually since its release.
